Investigation Launched After Massive Power Outage

The National Electricity Regulator (ENRE) has announced that it will initiate an investigation to determine the causes, responsibilities, and possible penalties related to the blackout recorded on Wednesday.

During the day yesterday, there were two significant events that will be subject to investigation. Firstly, disconnections were recorded on the high voltage lines Bosques-Hudson 1 and 2 of 220 kV at 05:24, followed by disconnections on the high voltage lines Costanera-Hudson 1 and 2 of 220 kV at 12:07, which left 550,000 and 740,000 users without service respectively.

In a statement, ENRE explained that after the blackout, its technical staff supervised the actions taken in the Edesur and SACME control centers. The work of Edesur’s technical crews on the affected lines was verified, and the distributor was requested to provide the corresponding technical reports on the failures and documentation supporting the maintenance work carried out on those lines.

The decision to initiate this investigation was made a day after the massive outage that affected the City of Buenos Aires and Greater Buenos Aires, impacting underground public transportation and causing problems in traffic due to the interruption of traffic lights.
